Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Families,
I hope you had a lovely but also restful long weekend. It will be an extra short week for us all, as this Friday, June 17th is a Staff Professional Development Day (Pupil Free Day) with staff spending the day deepening their understanding of Catholic Social Teachings.
Welcome to our new look newsletter! We are thrilled with the new format and the added features that it incorporates and hope you find it a handy reference tool for knowing more about daily life and upcoming dates at St Mary’s.
The Circus Challenge!
This week the students are in for a treat as we welcome the Circus Challenge crew to our school. Clinton and his team are running a series of circus workshops over the next two days, teaching the children the different tricks and skills used by circus performers . No doubt we are in for a few laughs and lots of fun as the children practise their new found skills.
Flying Start and 2023 Enrolments
You will have heard it on 3SH and seen it in the Guardian or on our Facebook page… it’s that time of year when we are open for enrolments and take names for Flying Start. Our parent community is one of our best forms of advertising so please let your friends and family know about the great teaching and learning programs and wonderful pastoral support that exists at St Mary's, when they are considering 2023 school options for their children.
Places are filling steadily, especially in the 9.30am session, so don’t forget to contact the school to confirm a place for your preschooler. Flying Start runs in Term 3 on Thursday and Friday mornings from (1) 9:00 to 10:30 and (2) 11:30 – 1:00 for all interested families. Ring the office for more information and don't forget to watch our series of videos that showcase our school in action on the St Mary’s Facebook page.
Parent Helpers Workshop
We have had many requests from parents who would like to assist in classrooms now that we are back on site. For those interested, Mrs Hall is running a Parent helpers workshop on Thursday June 16th from 9.15am-10:00am. Please ring the office to let us know you are planning to attend.
Vision And Mission Statement
After input from staff, students and the SAC throughout 2020 -2021 we have made some updates to our school Vision and Mission statement. This statement is fundamental to all we do and believe at our school and is on display in every classroom and in high traffic areas of the school as a visible reminder of our commitment to the children in our care.
St Vinnies Winter Appeal
At St Mary’s we place a strong focus on Social justice and try to live out the Gospel through our actions. One example of this is our commitment to the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. The Winter Vinnies Appeal provides emergency relief to people at risk and experiencing homelessness.Over the next two weeks we are asking for donations of non-perishable food which will be organised into hamper bags and distributed to those in need in our community. This appeal is being coordinated by our student representative Council (SRC).
Year 5 & 6 Personal Development Information Evening
Just a reminder that parents are invited to attend an information meeting Monday 20th June, beginning at 7.00pm. It is suggested that parents/carers attend this information meeting, so they are clear as to what our class teachers are presenting to the children. Parents can also take this opportunity to ask any questions they have regarding the content of the program and to learn how to deal with some of these issues and questions at home. Many thanks to our Year 5 & 6 teams for their organisation of this session.
Have a terrific week ,
Kate

St Vinnies Winter Appeal 2022
Over the next two weeks we are celebrating our annual St Vinnies Winter Appeal where we are called to remember Jesus’ love for everyone. Teaching children the concept of charity through donating items to help others is a wonderful way to develop their sense of compassion. We are asking that over the next two weeks for children to bring in donations of any non perishable food items to help those in our own local community who are in need of our help. We will be holding our ‘Winter Pyjamas’ themed casual dress day next Friday 24th June (last day of Term 2). The SRC are very excited to be involved in this event and are preparing posters to advertise this around the school.
Some ideas of non perisable food items to donate are:
Boxes of Cereal
Dry Pasta/Jars of Pasta Sauce
Rice
Tinned soup/vegetables/fruit/meals in cans
Muesli Bars/Dry Biscuits
Long Life Milk

Girls Footy
On Monday the 6th of June, St Mary’s had 2 teams entered in the Division Girls Footy competition held at Tyntynder. The day was all about promoting girls footy and talking to them about the opportunities in footy. Congratulations to the girls A team who have qualified for Regionals by winning all their games on the day. Well done to both teams for showing great sportsmanship and effort in their matches.
Active After Schools Program
The students have had their last AFL session of the Active After Schools Program. We would like to thank Otto and Austin from Mackillop College who provided our students with five great sessions of fun AFL games. A reminder that the last Netball session is on Monday 20th of June.
Year 5 and 6 Winter Sports
The Year 5 and 6 students have completed their last training session with the Mackillop students this week. Our students really appreciate the Mackillop Sport and Rec students taking them for their training sessions and preparing them for the Division Winter Sports. The Division competition is held on Tuesday the 21st of June. Students will compete in either Football, Netball, Soccer or T-Ball. Parents and guardians please check PAM for permission for your child/ren to attend.

Plastic bottle lids and bread tags
St. Mary’s is back supporting our families to do their bit by collecting their plastic bottle lids and plastic bread tags from home. These will be collected via the note basket.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Plastic Bottle Lids: Help rescue these lids from landfill and recycle them to protect our environment for future generations and wildlife.
Plastic Bread Tags: The tags are recycled locally, raising funds to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people.
